Unlocking the Future: Keys for Success
2012 SCFM Annual Conference
March 7-9, 2012
Georgetown, SC

"To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you."
Tony Dorsett

How do you define success in your organization? This year's conference will focus on providing "keys for success" to museums of all different sizes, styles and focuses. Come and share your experiences and ideas for what will help guide museums successfully into the future. Discuss ideas on staying motivated, continuing to adapt, and engaging visitors in this fast paced, quickly changing world.

Keynote speaker Angela Mack, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC, will provide her 25-year perspective of the museum community in South Carolina through the lens of her own evolution and career, bringing it into the present using the Gibbes' forthcoming renovation as an example of progress and the future of the SC museum community.

Thursday evening's silent auction and low country boil will feature big-ticket items such as a 3-day ocean front vacation in Cherry Grove, SC, donated by the Blockade Runner Hotel; two tickets and an overnight stay for the Fabulous Derby Bash in May, donated by the Lunney House in Senneca; and several beautiful pieces of local pottery as well.

Museums Matter!
2011 SCFM Annual Conference
March 9-11, 2011
Columbia, SC

The 2011 conference was held March 9-11, with the theme "Museums Matter!" This theme was especially timely as across South Carolina our arts, cultural and heritage organizations are facing severe cuts and even elimination of funding. In these times of economic crisis it is important that we come together as a unified and dedicated group, accepting the challenge to become more effective advocates for our institutions, programs, collections, and the museum community at large. The South Carolina State Museum was the event venue for sessions, keynote and business luncheons and the awards ceremony.
