"Buffalo Barfield (and some of his herd)"
in concert, this Saturday, at Hagood Mill
The Pickens County Cultural Commission invites one and all for a free
house concert from 12:00 till' 3:00 at the Hagood Mill Historic Site &
Folklife Center Saturday, January 3rd in the Visitor Building. The mill
site is proud to have "corralled" professional musician and entertainer,
Gregg "Buffalo" Barfield into performing with a variety of his musician
friends including SC Folk Heritage Award winners, fiddler, J.C. Owens
and guitarist, Steve McGaha. Seating is limited and first come - first
served. There's nothing like hearing and seeing great musicians in an
intimate, close setting. Come hear some of the "good stuff!"
Each "1st Saturday" also sees luthier, Harold Wayne Turner present,
constructing a fiddle or other instrument and available to answer any
questions about musical instrument construction. The Mill Site keeps
free catalogs of tools and instrument kits for those interested. One and
all are also invited to bring that stringed instrument out and jam!
The "spinning" ladies from Fiber Friends will be in the Hagood Cabin
during the afternoon to demonstrate their craft and to introduce anyone
interested to the art of spinning.
The Mill Site is open Wed. through Sat. from 10:00 to 4:00, to tour the
buildings and grounds. Hagood Mill is located three miles north of
Pickens or five miles south of Hwy 11, just off Hwy 178 at 138 Hagood
Mill Road. For more information contact Hagood Mill at 864-898-2936 or
the Pickens County Museum at 864-898-5963.
