"The Fine Art Ramblers in the Evening Shade"
Hagood Mill concert series continues August 22
The Pickens County Cultural Commission and the Hagood Mill Historic Site & Folklife Center are proud to sponsor "Pickin' in the Evening Shade," a series of Fourth Saturday evening concerts at the Hagood Mill. The third concert of the series will take place Saturday evening, August 22 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.
From Greenville, the "Fine Arts Ramblers", a 'post modern' Jug Band, was founded by a group of upstate visual artists with a common love of acoustic music from a variety of sources. The group plays everything from Blues and Rags from the 20's and 30's to Appalachian fiddle tunes, Tin Pan Alley and an occasional nod to the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Band members, already well known in the arts community and rapidly becoming known in the music scene, include Patti Brady (Guitar and Ukulele), Jim Campbell (Guitar, Octave Mandolin and Ukulele), Bob Chance (Guitar and Banjo), Phil Garrett (Mandolin, Resophonic Guitar and Hawaiian Guitar), Danny Henderson (Upright Bass), Glen Miller (Fiddle, Banjo, Harmonica, Octave Mandolin and anything else he has a mind to pick up) and Joel Wilkinson (Percussion, Ukulele and Guitar).
Opening up for the featured performers will be the "Long Mountain Ramblers" featuring Steve McGaha and Dean Watson performing their ol' time blues, folk and gospel styling. Come out, bring your lawn chairs, and sit in the cool of the evening shade to enjoy the jovial performances of these two very enjoyable bands.
This concert is part of the "Pickin' in the Evening Shade" concerts on the 4th Saturday evenings at historic Hagood Mill each month into the autumn. There is no admission fee for the concert; however, donations for the musicians are appreciated. Upcoming "Evening Shade" concerts will feature traditional music bands ranging from Bluegrass to the Blues... with some surprises in store
