The Georgetown County Historical Society is pleased to share with you exciting news about their upcoming weekend special event scheduled to take place on October 23 and 24, 2009.
When in June, "This Old House.com" selected Georgetown as one of the best places nationwide to buy an historic home, the Society initiated plans to celebrate and showcase the exceptional restoration and preservation taking place in the historic district.
On Saturday October 24th from 10am-4pm, this major fundraiser for the Georgetown County Museum, called "Architectural Gems of Georgetown", will offer the rarest of opportunities to tour two "gems" of the Georgetown historic district that have been recently and beautifully restored: the Congdon-Doyle Matheson House and the Morgan-Ray House. Both homes are located on Prince Street on either side of the Museum.
Additionally, for those interested in broadening their understanding of historic preservation, there will be a symposium from 10am-12:30 pm which will offer a chance to learn from experienced professionals in the field. The symposium, which will take place at the Winyah Auditorium will include a brown bag lunch.
A preview party at the Winyah Indigo Society Hall the evening before will feature fabulous food and libations, an heirloom antiques silent auction and as the centerpiece of the program-native son Bill Oberst Jr's original character portrayal of Georgetown's first mayor, W. D. Morgan-one time owner of one of the homes on tour.
Tickets may be purchased by phone: 843-545-7020 or at the Museum. A color brochure detailing ticket prices is available on the Museum's website www.georgetowncountymuseum.com
The Georgetown County Museum is located at 632 Prince Street across from the Historic County Courthouse. Museum Hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10am to 3 pm. Regular admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children age 6 to 12. Children under 6 and members are admitted free of charge.
