Curator of History to Present at the 2010 SCBook Festival

Columbia, S.C.- Kristina Dunn Johnson, Curator of History for the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, has been selected to co-host a presentation at the 2010 SCBook Festival.

Johnson, who recently published No Holier Spot of Ground: Confederate Monuments and Cemeteries of South Carolina (History Press, 2009) will be presenting alongside Thomas Moore Craig, author of Upcountry South Carolina Goes to War (USC Press) on Saturday, February 27th from 3:20-4:10 in a session titled "Civil War: Battlefronts and Homefronts."

With a BA degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and a MA degree in Public History from the University of South Carolina, Johnson has been recognized for her work at Historic Columbia Foundation, Gettysburg National Military Park, the Civil War Preservation Trust, and the Atlanta History Center. She has served as a history consultant for the History Channel, South Carolina Educational Television, and ABC Columbia's "Hidden Columbia" segments. She says that she is thrilled to be able to share her passion for history with South Carolina's readers.

"I am very honored that the SC Book Festival selected my book to highlight in this year's festival and its a privilege to have the opportunity to share these stories about South Carolina's history to a larger audience," says Johnson. "I hope that people will leave our session with a desire to learn about local history, especially monuments and cemeteries. In learning about these places, hopefully it will lead to a greater respect and desire to preserve historic places and artifacts. As a historian, I want to remind people that history is everywhere- you don't have to travel to exotic locations to find it."

All sessions for the SCBook Festival, including "Civil War: Battlefronts and Homefronts", will take place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center located at 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC.

Admission is free and both Johnson and Craig will be available to sign books after the presentation.
