To Whom It May Concern,

Thank you for your interest in TRACES and our traveling exhibit, "Held on the
Homefront." Below is a copy of our e-flyer which has more information
regarding the mission, goals, and methods of our tour. Please read through the
flyer and visit our website, www.TRACES.org, for more pictures and videos about
the bus-eum.

Once you have read through this information we hope that you believe, as we do,
that this exhibit is a beneficial and academic tool that will awaken South
Carlonia's role in WWII. We would love the opportunity to come to your
location and display the exhibit for the benefit of your community. Please
contact us with questions or to confirm a showing!

Sincerely,

Dana Hiller

TRACES Center for History and Culture is featuring, Held on the Homefront:

German POWs in the U.S., 1943-46, a traveling exhibit touring the state of South
Carolina between May 1st - June 2010

Held on the Homefront is an unusual, rich story brought to life in BUS-eum 3—a
40-foot school bus converted into a mobile classroom and museum. The exhibit
consists of 15 narrative display panels illustrated with photographs and
documents, audio and DVD documentaries, artifacts and more. Labor Day weekend

2009 starts a two year exhibit which will visit both large and small communities
in 25 states, from Minnesota to Texas, and Florida to Boston by June 2011. This
link provides a short video clip of a BUS-eum 3 stop in

Although few people know the story today, almost half a million Axis POWs were
held in the U.S. during WWII. Three hundred and eighty thousand of these POWs
were Germans, held in 660 camps in almost every state in the union. They worked
side by side with their American "hosts" and in the process formed
relationships, some lasting for decades. These experiences on all sides embody
ageless and timely themes of war and peace, justice under arms, and issues
regarding human rights, international reconciliation and future conflict
avoidance.

There were twenty-one camps in the state of South Carolina alone:

Aiken, Aiken County--Barnwell, Barnwell County--Bennettsville, Marlboro
County--Camden, Kershaw County--Charleston, Charleston County--Charleston Army
Air Base, Charleston County--Charleston Port of Embarkation, Charleston
County--Columbia Army Air Base, Richland County—Coronaca Army Airfield,
Greenwood, Greenwood County—Croft, near Spartanburg, Spartanburg
County--Florence Army Air Base, Florence, Florence County, now Florence
Regional Airport-- Hampton, Hampton County, --Holly Hill, Orangeburg
County--Jackson, Columbia, Richland County--Myrtle Beach Army Air Base, Horry
County, now Myrtle Beach Air Force Base—Norway, Orangeburg County—Shaw Field,
near Oakland, Sumter County—Walterboro Army Air Base, Walterboro, Colleton
County—Whitmire, Newberry County--Witherbee, Berkeley County—York, York County
