Creating Digital Collections, an Introduction
November 4, 2013
Columbia, South Carolina
The South Carolina Federation of Museums is pleased to announce the forthcoming workshop Creating Digital Collections, an Introduction. Museum professionals, librarians, archivists and more, will benefit from this informative workshop given by the staff of the University of South Carolina Digital Collections department. Many museums and archives are just beginning to understand the importance of digital collections. What are the benefits of creating a digital archive? Is this a project that you can do yourself? Maybe you’ve started to scan but are unsure of the standards and specifications to use. Join us for a day of learning the basic steps to creating your own digital collection. The USC Digital Collections staff will provide hands-on training and guidance for participants using scanners, computers and other digital equipment. Staff with guide participants through the process working with specific SCDL and USC Libraries Digital Collections workflows and will learn how to use these tips and techniques at their own institution.
The workshop will be jointly lead by Kate Boyd Digital Collections Librarian at USC and a Co-coordinator of the South Carolina Digital Library (SCDL). She manages several grants, including a Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley grant, an LSTA grant, and an NEH grant. She also manages and coordinates new initiatives for the Digital Collections Department at USC. Her co-host is Ashley Knox Digital Projects Librarian at USC Digital Collections, where she manages digital projects in collaboration with USC campus special collections librarians. She has worked in digital collections in some capacity since 2009.
