Fielding Freed, 2nd Vice President
Fielding Freed is Director of Historic House Museums for Historic Columbia. A native of Chattanooga, Fielding has worked in the museum field for sixteen years. Fielding’s mantra about museums, house museums in particular, is “… that they are like sharks. They have to keep moving forward or they die.” After a five year stint as a photojournalist, he earned an MS in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Museum Studies Certificate from the Milwaukee Public Museum. His recent work as part of reinterpretation team for the Woodrow Wilson Family Home and Museum of Reconstruction was particularly satisfying because of the challenge of presenting difficult subject matter to the public.
